Description

We are seeking an experienced reservoir engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support an innovative AI initiative for a client in the oil & gas sector. The ideal candidate brings deep domain knowledge in reservoir engineering and simulation and can translate field-proven workflows into rigorous datasets, validation scenarios, and actionable requirements for AI model development. You will partner closely with the client and our data/ML teams to ensure outputs are technically sound, industry-relevant, and decision-grade. 

Responsibilities

The RE SME will collaborate with the client and our technical team to validate, stress-test, and guide AI solutions against real reservoir engineering challenges. Core responsibilities include designing and executing test plans to evaluate model accuracy and reliability, curating and generating high quality datasets and scenario suites, and converting complex stakeholder feedback into clear development specifications. The SME will provide hands-on domain guidance across simulation workflows and industry software to ensure the product’s results align with engineering expectations and reservoir management best practices. 

The SME will be required to travel and be co-located with the client for this short-term project. Successful candidates may be eligible for longer term in-country projects in 2026. 

Duration

As early as October 20th – 2 weeks virtual, then up to 8 weeks in-country (UAE). 

Compensation

Competitive local rates, including travel and expenses. 

What You’ll Bring:  

• Advanced degree in Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, or a closely related field  

• 15+ years of hands-on reservoir engineering and simulation experience with strong understanding of industry software and standard RE workflows 

• Proficiency with reservoir engineering tools (e.g., tNavigator, Eclipse, Intersect)  

• Proven ability to translate technical requirements and stakeholder feedback into clear, actionable specifications for development teams  

• Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating cross-functionally with engineers, data scientists, and product teams 

• Based in the UAE or willing to relocate for the project duration

• Nice to have: 

  • Experience with data science, Python, and Large Language Models (LLMs)  

  • Prior work with technical teams on software/AI product development  

  • Comfortable working remotely with regular client check-ins
