Minimum Experience

For this project, we are looking for a geologist with profound knowledge of carbonate reservoir characterization linked to hydrocarbon exploration and, ideally, with a solid background on Egyptian Western Desert (WD) carbonate geology and the relevant onshore WD-Egyptian and Libyan petroleum systems and fields.

The main goal of this project is to analyze all available data (key literature/academic papers, well logs, well reports, mud logs etc..) from key inboard wells (after a pre-selection) and outcrops and integrate them into a Gross Depositional Environment (GDE)/reservoir quality map for key carbonate intervals. The focus of this project will be on a predictive model for the potential occurrence of reservoirs in the offshore-Herodotus (HD) Basin. A key task will therefore be a projection of key reservoir facies into the outboard with the help of selected 2D seismic lines and 3D-seismic data.

The key deliverables for this project will include:

  • A description of all potential carbonate reservoir types (shoals, platform, chalk etc.) within the strat interval of interest and their likely occurrence in the offshore. Define an archetype- (well or outcrop) section for each type. Key reservoir risks (depositional, diagenetic) should be addressed.

  • Draft geo-referenced GDE-/reservoir maps for each key interval within the AOI.

  • Annotated key seismic sections and well x-sections illustrating reservoir potential in the (inboard) offshore HD.

  • Catalog of all shows and other information of HC-charge within any of the studied sections.

  • Assessment of reservoir quality for high-graded areas (if data allow)

  • Report summarizing work and findings.

What you’ll bring

  • Active interest or link to active research in the project AOI (required)

  • Relevant carbonate geology experience (depositional environments and reservoir quality controls) and profound knowledge of Egyptian (petroleum) geology

  • Demonstrated ability to apply carbonate geology principles to petroleum geology in support of exploration (preferred)

  • Good overview of relevant academic research

  • Comfortable using a sequence stratigraphy approach to map depositional systems.

  • Experienced Petrel user: skills in stratigraphic well analysis, correlation, and integration of well and seismic data

  • Experienced GIS user

  • 10+ years experience

Project Application closes on 4 November 2024 at 5pm CT / 10pm UTC.
