For this project, we're looking for a geoscientist or petrophysicist with over 5 years of experience in borehole image log interpretation, with a strong preference for expertise in sedimentary geology and coal. The XiR will be familiar with fluvial-lacustrine-coal depositional systems and the identification of structural and sedimentary features on resistivity and acoustic image tools.
This project's objectives will be to:
Identify, interpret, and quantify coal cleat properties (density, length, width, orientation, and network characterization) and natural fractures from borehole image logs (FMI and CMI).
Deliver structured, exportable results at the seam level, including breakouts, drilling-induced fractures, and cleat metrics suitable for cross-well benchmarking and correlation with production and permeability datasets.
8 hours of work, to be completed within a single week as the XiR sees fit.

5+ years of hands-on experience interpreting borehole image logs (FMI, CMI, or equivalent resistivity/acoustic image tools)
Expert knowledge of sedimentary geology, with specific familiarity with coal and fluvial-lacustrine-coal depositional systems
Skilled in feature identification on image logs, including bedding, fractures, breakouts, facies boundaries, coal seam contacts, cleat types, cleat morphology, and structural dip picking
Experienced in geological labeling and annotation for machine learning. Able to apply structured feature taxonomies and quality criteria that translate interpretation into a clean, model-ready dataset
Familiar with integrating conventional logs (GR, density, resistivity) with image log interpretation for consistency checks (highly desirable)
Understanding of how ground-truth datasets feed into AI models (highly desirable)
Academic or industry publications on image log interpretation (nice to have)
